Atlanta International Fashion Week

I’ve been to Atlanta before, but never for leisure.  This was a very specific fashion-driven purpose.  My friend and I flew down to Atlanta strictly for Atlanta International Fashion Week (AIFW).  We are both mothers of three so we could only get away for 2 days (July 31st and August 1st) and we made the most of it!!!

We stayed at the Hilton downtown, and were even adventurous enough to use Uber, which was awesome by the way, the drivers were pleasant and wait times were minimal.

Day #1

Our AIFW “passport” took us on the Last Train to Paris. The Gate was a perfect venue; the weather was beautiful. As day turned to night this outdoor runway was the ideal vehicle to exhibit the designers’ menswear, swimwear, ready to wear, and fall lines. We met a lot great people including some stylish and intelligent women in public relations and web design from Sheen Magazine!

Next we went to Gold Room for the after party, which played every possible throwback, Chubb Rock even performed!

Day #2

We had brunch at Negril Village.  This was significant for two reasons: the decadent Banana foster French toast and I finally wore my new free people jumpsuit!!

Using our AIFW passport we gained entrance to the Fashion at the Opera, another outstanding venue. The haute couture was spectacular.

The after party was at Opera Night Club, which had 3 separate areas to tickle your entertainment fancy, RSVP Atlanta was playing live music on patio with creative hor d’oeuvres; another area was an art exhibit by Mr Self Made; and of course a huge dance floor rocking the latest hip hop.

Atlanta International Fashion Week, exceeded my expectations. I was intitally nervous because I bought the flights, and tickets were not available until about 2 weeks before the event. But, I enjoyed the exclusivity, and intimate settings of venue.  This allowed the focus to be on the fashion. Although there was the usual fashion show fanfare it was appropriate and did not distract from the designers hard work and creativity.  We will definitely make this an annual trip (if our husbands allow it, of course.)
